GRMN-100 First Year German Refresh (2 Credits)
For students placed into GRMN-102. Students who placed into GRMN-102 can sign up for GRMN-100 in the fall as a refresher and attend class with GRMN-101 before taking GRMN-102 in the spring. Prerequisite: placement in 102.
GRMN-101 First-Year German I (4 Credits)
Students will begin to learn to communicate in German in speech and in writing and will learn about the cultures of German-speaking Europe and intercultural communication. For students with no prior study of German. Offered in the fall.
GRMN-102 First Year German II (4 Credits)
Students will continue to build their ability to communicate in German in speech and in writing and will learn more about the cultures of German-speaking Europe and intercultural communication. Prerequisite: GRMN 101 or placement. Offered in the spring.
GRMN-199 Directed Study (1-2 Credits)
Students can study a particular topic under a faculty member\'s direction. Prerequisite: permission of instructor and department chair.
GRMN-200 AP German (4 Credits)
GRMN-201 German Language and Culture (4 Credits)
Students will build their German language skills while learing about contemporary cultural topics. Students will build their vocabulary, review grammatical topics, read write, and develop listening skills. Taught in German. Prerequisite: GRMN 102 or placement
GRMN-202 Austria and Switzerland (4 Credits)
Students will build their German language skills while learning about the cultures of Austria and Switzerland, including linguistic and cultural differences, history, music, art, and cuisine. Students will build their vocabulary, review grammatical topics, read, writer, and develop listening skills. Prerequisite: GRMN 102 or placement.
GRMN-203 Love and Marriage (4 Credits)
Students will build their German language skills while exploring the topic of love and marriage in German-speaking Europe. The class will discuss demographic trends, cross-cultural comparisons, and literary and artistic representations of various kinds of relationships. Students will build their vocabulary, review grammatical topics, read, write and develop listening skills. Prerequisite: GRMN 102 or placement.
GRMN-220 Conversational German (4 Credits)
Discussion of cultural issues and current developments in Germany. Includes development of needed vocabulary and review of relevant grammatical topics. Taught in Germany as part of a summer or semester program.
GRMN-221 Intensive German (4 Credits)
Intensive German language instruction, including vocabulary development and grammar review. Includes written and spoken skills. Taught in Germany as part of a summer or semester program.

GRMN-301 War and Its Aftermath (4 Credits)
Students will build their German language skills while exploring the topic World War II and Nazi Germany, including the rise of the Nazis, life during the war, and the process of coming to grips with the past after the war. Students will build their vocabulary, review grammatical topics, read, write, and develop listening skills. Prerequisite: GRMN-102 or placement.
GRMN-302 German and the Workplace (4 Credits)
Students will build their German language skills while exploring the different kinds of jobs and attitudes toward work in German-speaking countries. Students will build their vocabulary, review grammatical topics, read, write, and develop listening skills. Prerequisite: GRMN-102 or placement.
GRMN-303 Crime and Justice (4 Credits)
Students will build their German language skills while exploring the concepts of crime and justice in German-speaking Europe, including cross-cultural comparisons, and literary and artistic representations of quests for justice. Students will build their vocabulary, review grammatical topics, read, write, and develop listening skills. Prerequisite: GRMN 102 or placement.
