Reports To:  Director of Corporate Support, WVIK

Overview:  Works closely with the Director of Corporate Support, Development, General Manager, Business Manager, and other station employees to meet the corporate support goals of WVIK, Quad Cities NPR.  The Corporate Support Associate develops and solicits prospects for corporate sponsorship of local and national public radio programs, as well as station events. This position is 20-hours per week and pays based on a competitive commission structure, including a base salary and an optional path to full-time employment depending on the career aspirations of the candidate. As a part of Augustana College, WVIK is also able to offer a competitive benefits and retirement package.

Job Duties:

  1. Works with WVIK director of corporate support to generate underwriting revenue and meet the established revenue goals through the identification of, contact with, and contracting of business, non-profit and other potential underwriters. 
  2. Solicits underwriting support and sponsorships.
  3. Researches and prepares materials to aid corporate solicitations.
  4. Cultivates relationships with new underwriting prospects and maintains relationships with existing underwriters as assigned.
  5. Represents WVIK through direct contact with corporate sponsors and audience members at public events.
  6. Serves as a member of the WVIK staff team, attending meetings, helping with a variety of needs, and collaborating with others.
  7. Provides regular reports and updates on activities, calls, and funds raised.
  8. Assists with station operations, activities, and events as requested.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

Education: B.A. in Business, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Experience:  1-3 years of demonstrated success in fundraising, development, broadcast sales, or a related field. Working knowledge of public broadcasting and non-profit operations is preferred.

Skills & Abilities: 

  • Must have a strong sales ability and dedication to client service; excellent communication skills with a diverse audience including colleagues, listeners, station members, potential givers, and members of the business community.
  • Demonstrate an ability to work independently with little direction.
  • Should be able to demonstrate excellence in preparation and presentation of solicitation materials, including competence in the use of common business applications.
  • Working knowledge of media sales terms and practices and a working knowledge of Nielsen data analysis would be helpful, though training is available.
  • Possess an appreciation for the mission of public radio.
  • Ability to operate in a highly commercialized and competitive media sales environment but do so within the boundaries of and with sensitivity to a not-for-profit, non-commercial media outlet.

Supervisory Responsibility:  This position does not have direct reports.

Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, fax machines and filing cabinets.

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift 15 pounds on a frequent basis.  Also required is the ability to listen, hear, speak, read, climb stairs, bend, stoop, and stand for intermittently long periods of time.  Must be able to use a computer to accomplish a variety of job tasks.  Must be able to speak clearly in the English language. 

Expected hours of work: 20  hours a week

Travel: This position requires frequent, off-campus work, largely around the Quad Cities.
