The worldwide Augustana College experience

Leavin’ on a Jet Plane…

So it is the first day of Spring Term, and it has been an odd feeling to be back in the U.S. and on campus.  I find myself missing Vietnam at weird times.  It has been nice to be home in a place that I am more familiar with, but over the past month, Vietnam became very familiar and comfortable for me, as well.

I have never had an experience like this foreign term.  I never thought it possible to feel truly comfortable in country that is so distant, both geographically and culturally, from the United States.  But I really did.

I think what I miss the most is the relaxed atmosphere.  Though the cities were busy and there were always people bustling about, Vietnam had a much more liesurely pace.  I will miss being able to sit for hours at dinner, or just take an afternoon walk.

The food has also been something that I miss.  Everything we ate there was so fresh and good… it has been hard to go back to meals where you don’t get fresh spring rolls.  And then there is getting used to using forks as opposed to chopsticks again… that will be tricky. 🙂

But I had a wonderful experience in Vietnam, and i truly hope to be able to go back someday.
