The worldwide Augustana College experience

Hi! My name is Katrina Jensen, and I just finished my sophomore year at Augustana. I am double majoring in communication sciences & disorders and psychology. I am also involved in a number of activities on campus including playing my French horn in Symphonic Band and Symphony Orchestra, Handbell Choir, Campus Ministries, Clogustana, Admissions Ambassadors and Peer Mentors. This summer, I am traveling to Singapore and Thailand where I will be participating in a volunteer abroad program. I hope that you will join me on my journey and share in all of my new, exciting experiences!

Sushi- Finally!

Greetings once again from the Tokyo airport! Yesterday was pleasant, but exhausting.  I woke up fairly early in the morning to go back to the temple that I visited on my first day here.  I figured since it was where I started my Thailand adventure, it would make sense for me to come full circle […]

Why do all good things come to an end?

Hey! Since I still don’t have words to describe my last day at Kositsamosorn, I think some pictures are in order:

Last Day of School :,(

No matter what language you speak, “Goodbye” is the hardest word to say… This is the lesson I learned today when I had to say goodbye to the 200 3rd and 4th graders I’ve been working with for the last 4 weeks. Words cannot describe the love and kindness the kids showed me today, and […]

Thai Boxing

Hey all! Don’t have much time to write, I am making apple crisp for everybody here and I have to finish this blog before it is done baking! The last few days have been really good.  Thanks to some wise advice from my daddy, I am trying to make the most of my last week […]

Lovely Koh Samet Island

Hello again! I’m writing to you a little sunburned and a little sore, but very refreshed from a fun weekend on the tropical island of Koh Samet!  Maggie, Crystal, and I went to the beach this weekend for a nice getaway from smoggy Bangkok.  We took a bus and then a ferry boat to get […]

Another English Camp

Hello again!  This is going to be short because I’m waking up early tomorrow to go to the beach, but I had such an amazing day today that I just had to tell you about it! Today at my school was another English camp, this time for the 6th graders.  I was teaching Sign Language […]

Out and About in Bangkok

Hello again! Life has been pretty good around here lately. Not too much going on, but it’s been nice to have a few days to relax. Sunday we slept in and hung out around the house which was wonderful!  Then in the evening, Maggie, Crystal, and I went to MBK, one of the big shopping […]

What a Weekend!

There is never a shortage of chaos and surprises here in Bangkok and this weekend was no exception. We visited a floating market in Pathaya on Friday.  The name was quite deceiving as there wasn’t much there that was actually floating.  While shopping, I decided to purchase a popsicle and decided on the “mixed fruit” […]

A few thoughts…

“Speech pathology,” I said. “You mean you study speech therapy?” Chuwanna asked. “Yes,” I replied.  “I want to help people who have difficulties talking to others people.  Especially children.” The English teacher replied in her broken English, “Oh yes, we have many of those here at the school.  Many children with many problems.  They are […]

Weekend in Chiang Mai!

Hello again! Sorry I haven’t updated in awhile, I had quite a busy weekend!  On Friday all of the CCS volunteers visited the Grand Palace and some other Bangkok tourist spots.  The grand palace is where the King usually lives (he’s sick right now so he’s not currently living there).  We had a great tour […]
