A window inside life at Augustana College

Being a leader!

Getting involved has been the best thing that I have done so far in my career at Augie. In high school I was always extremely involved, whether it was Editor-In-Chief of the Yearbook or in charge of the Costume Crew, I was always doing something.

Nothing has changed from the time I finished my senior year until the start of my sophomore year here at Augustana. Although, here I have taken on many more leadership opportunities then in high school.

I am currently Co-President of Clogustana, National Outreach Chair of Alpha Phi Omega, Event Planner for Business Club and Marketing Chair of Student United Way. In addition to all of those leadership roles, I am in concert band, gospel choir, and taking two lessons, clarinet and organ.

Some people might say that I am crazy, let’s be honest, the majority of people that I talk to say that I am crazy for being this involved. Getting involved and being a leader on campus is my passion and I love every second of it.

I have met so many amazing people through my involvement in all of these activities. I have even met some of my closest friends here at Augie by getting involved. Becoming a leader and accepting challenges indeed makes life a little hectic at times but I have never once regretted the days that I had to stay up a little later so I could work on the website for United Way or to brainstorm ideas for APO. It is my passion and I know that these leadership skills will take me far.

So just one little piece of advice before I sign off, if you want to try something new or be more involved, go for it! One of my favorite quotes is: “You are never going to remember the nights you got enough sleep.”

Go ahead and get more involved! Yes, it may be hectic at times, but it is the friendships that you make and the opportunities you take that you will remember the most.

Have a splendid day!
