A window inside life at Augustana College

Following the road to the Greek World

It’s been a long time since I’ve last blogged but that’s because I have been busy, busy, busy! As if I didn’t have enough with classes and all of my extracurricular activities, I decided to rush in February.
When I first came into college I didn’t know much about sororities and fraternities. Most of what I knew came from movies, which I later learned were very incorrect! Although I didn’t know much about what I was getting myself into, I decided to do it beccause several people encouraged me to rush, they said if I didn’t end up pledging at least it would be a good way to meet new people. And they were right! I met tons of people that weekend! Some were people I had had classes with and never even talked to before.
After rush weekend it was time to wait and see which sororities or fraternities would invite us back to attend their formal. It was a very long Monday because we were all anxiously awaiting. After receiving our bids we had to choose up to 3 formals to attend. Once we formal week was over we got to “Pref” which sorority or fraternity we would be willing to accept a bid from. We wouldn’t be finding out if we were accepted into that group until after spring break though. Let’s just say it was a very long spring break.
The day to return to Augie finally came and we were all excited to find out if we would be pledging or not. Three o’clock came (which is when bids would be delivered to our room) and immediately screams of excitement began! I wasn’t a screamer but I was extremely ecstatic because my friends and I were going to be pledging the same sorority.
I literally went from, “will I get in?” to “what will I wear?” because pledging was going to start that night. At initiation we were all feeling the same way because we had no idea what to expect. In the following 4 and a half weeks my pledge class and I learned that Chi Alpha Pi’s motto is true, “Strangers we entered, friends we became, and sisters we remain.”
The new member period introduced me to 86 active Chi Alpha Pi members and 30 other pledges as myself who I am proud to call my sisters! I believe that all the time and effort that I put into rush and pledging was worth it and I’m excited for all of the fun and memories that I will share with my sisters. (:
