Meadow Beauty in Bloom

Let’s continue this Greenwing talk.

The next day, after a hearty breakfast, Dr. Dziadyk began our walk around the property. We first visited the prairie, full of ten foot tall big bluestem and indian grass. The day was gorgeous, and the property made it even more so. Off in one corner we found a thick stand of sunflowers.

After a short break for lunch we went out for an afternoon walk on the loop road, which meanders throughout much of the forested sector of the property. Alex, in traditional Alex fashion, dressed like an indian, even making a bow. In fact, everyone bedecked themselves in some way with leaves, flowers, and turkey feathers, which we found the forest full of.

Forest Nymphs

If you ever have a chance to take a look around Greenwing, make sure you make it to the pine forest. It’s the remnants of an old Christmas tree farm, now row after row of tall white pines. You feel as if you’re in the mountains. And the mountains are indeed a wonderful place to be.

"Forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet, and the winds long to play with your hair." -Kahlil Gibran
