A window inside life at Augustana College

Hi! My name is Jessica Leifheit and I am currently a senior at Augustana majoring in Biology and Pre-Medicine. I serve as the Treasurer for Augustana’s Habitat for Humanity group and spend many of my free Saturdays volunteering at the house building sites or various Habitat fundraisers. When I am not in class or involved with Habitat for Humanity, you will probably find me working in the sports information office in Carver Center, at one of the many Augustana athletic events at the scorer’s table, or in the press box taking statistics.

I am from Big Rock, Illinois, a town of just 1,200 people. I went to Hinckley-Big Rock (H-BR) High School in Hinckley, Illinois, which happens to be where the very first Harlem Globetrotters game took place back in 1927. During the past three summers, I have worked at Camp Dean, a residential Girl Scout camp located in my hometown. This past summer I was the assistant camp director as well as the head cook of the camp and a general counselor.

My life in a blog part 3

I got off the phone and the call still had not sunk in. I had just been offered an intern position at my number one choice of places I had applied! Following my summer camp job I knew where I would be…the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.   I spent much of the rest of […]

My life in a blog part 2

Wednesday morning was there before I knew it and I was on my phone interview with Villanova! The fact that they even considered me was awesome!   Next up was my trip to Iowa City.  I got to Carver-Hawkeye Arena around 11:30 for my 11:45 appointment so I checked my email. I had a few […]

My life in a blog part 1

Entering Easter weekend the anxiety of graduation began to set in. I realized that in just over a month I would be a college graduate that still had no idea what my future would hold. Well on Easter Monday all of that began to change.   I visited with the new director at the summer […]

For the second year in a row, both the men’s and women’s lacrosse teams have clenched births in their conference tournaments. The men’s team was able to hold on for the fourth and final spot despite an overtime loss in Elmhurst. The team will face Aurora, who is undefeated in the conference, for their final […]

Good news!

I have been keeping my blog relatively up-to-date with the progress of my internship search, well here’s the newest information! I received an email from Syracuse (yes, the East coast, New York, Orange, Syracuse!) informing me that I was one of their top candidates for an internship. I was asked to send them a link […]

I know that it has been a while since my last blog post but with good reason!  Last week was not only my midterms but also the week that I had phone interviews with the University of Illinois  and the Saint Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC)! I was also invited to the football press conference […]

I have a problem…

Last night I had the opportunity to go to the Mallard’s playoff game against Rapid City with a few friends. It was one of the first sporting events I have been to in a LONG time that I wasn’t working/getting paid to attend. As I was sitting at the game I caught myself thinking about […]

Today was the day I have been waiting for!

Prior to today I had not heard back from any of the schools that I applied for internships at for next school year. All of that changed when I received an email from the Director of Athletic Communications at the University of Iowa asking when I’d be able to visit Iowa City! As you can […]

How I got locked IN Carver Center

Usually my weeks are pretty normal. I go to my two classes and put in between 45 and 55 hours in the sports information office for my six-credit internship/job…this week didn’t seem like it would be any different, until Wednesday night. On that evening the Augustana men’s lacrosse played on the road at MSOE (Milwaukee […]
